War Eagle Wedding

Recently, it seems as though everyone around me is getting engaged. Not to say that anything is wrong with that, but my practical side is starting to show. It never occurred to me that we are now old enough and in an age group where marriage is considered appropriate. Frankly, if my boyfriend got down on one knee I would be really freaked out, but there are many people who have found that special someone, and some have found that person at Auburn.

For those who have found that person and were lucky enough to attend Auburn, they now have the opportunity to win a dream wedding. What could be better getting out of college as a poor college student, showing your school spirit and love and winning the wedding of your dreams? Now this is something that may make me reconsider my freaked out reaction and switch it for a YES.

This year, The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center, the Opelika-Auburn News and WRBL News 3 are working in partnership to create a War Eagle Wedding. But this wedding is not just any wedding, it is an all-inclusive wedding experience sponsored and completely paid for that screams Auburn.

The competition started off with 19 couples. The couples had to submit a two-minute video or an application saying why they should win the dream wedding. A committee then narrowed the applicants down to three couples; Caroline and Ben, Jennifer and Wes, and Katie and Slade. These couples are super cute; most of them met at Auburn and shared their story.

My personal favorite, Katie and Slade, told their story of how they grew up in a small town 30 minutes away from Auburn. They were neighbors that knew each other from the day they were born and even said that they both dressed up as Aubie for Halloween one year.

Now that the couples are narrowed down, it is up to the public to vote and choose a winner. But that’s not all. Once a couple is selected, the public will be able to vote for the wedding dress, the invitation, the cake design, the floral arrangements, portraits, jewelry, the rehearsal dress and the reception menu.

If that doesn’t seem like enough, the couple will also be featured in numerous promotions and will get to start their own blog to share the experience with those who chose them.

It seems as though it will be a classic wedding on Saturday, May 26, on the lawn in front of Samford Hall and the reception's being held at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

These couples are all so lucky to have found someone they want to spend the rest of their life with, but they are even luckier to have the opportunity to win a dream War Eagle wedding. May the best couple win!
