A Hundred Years of Heart Sunshine in Nebraska

Rebecca Ramm
Alpha Xi Delta

It is a good time to be an Alpha Xi Delta at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The new year is looking to be promising for all of the Greek houses at UNL, but the ladies of Rho Chapter have a unique reason to be excited. June 5, 2012 marks a significant landmark in Alpha Xi Delta history: one hundred years since the official installment of the chapter on campus.

Alpha Xi Delta in Lincoln, beginning with a mere twelve members united by Lulu Runge, University of Nebraska-Lincoln math professor and Alpha Xi Delta Theta chapter alumna, has since expanded to a house of well over 130 active sisters and thousands of alumnae. Brought together by philanthropy, sisterhood, and the drive to fulfill their academic and personal potential, these women have defined life in The Castle for one hundred years, and they are ready to celebrate the milestones of the past century.

A full schedule is planned for the more than 300 actives and alumnae from all over the country who plan on attending. The festivities kick off with a Decade Party the night of June 1, which all Alpha Xi Deltas from Rho Chapter, both active and alumnae, are invited to attend. Saturday June 2 is filled with events displaying the house and celebrating the chapter itself such as: brunch, an open house tour, and a social banquet hour at the Cornhusker Country Club. In store for Saturday evening is a formal dinner honoring the traditions shared by all members of Alpha Xi Delta. As for accommodations, on both Friday and Saturday night alumnae of all ages will be given the opportunity to relive their days as actives by staying with their sisters in a room in the castle. An early brunch and following rededication ceremony on Sunday morning wraps up the three-day event with a message of optimism for the future of Rho Chapter.

Alpha Xi Delta has flourished on the UNL campus in the past century, its members committing themselves to and achieving academic and philanthropic excellence. Without a doubt, there will be mixed emotions for all of Lincoln’s Alpha Xi Deltas as nostalgia for the past blends with excited anticipation for what the next one hundred years will bring.

To all my sisters,

Congratulations, Xi Love, and Go Big Red!
