Mid-Year CrisisIf you all haven’t noticed, we are well into the middle of January. First semester is long gone, and second semester has come at us full force. Freshmen, you may find yourself realizing how fast the best four years (sometimes five for those of you who like to live more in the moment), and seniors, you are almost done. Just think, four years ago you were most likely doing something illegal, but very “college,” in the hallways of Russell or Creswell. Regardless of whether or not one is a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, in a few months everyone will be taking the next step in his or her life. We are all so… OLD. I understand you all may be freaking out; perhaps you haven’t done just about everything you wanted to during the fall. You may be experiencing what I like to call a Mid-year Crisis. Don’t worry though, there’s still time to channel your inner Charlie Sheen and conquer your current state of mind. This semester, make everything about you! Just use my tips and tricks as a guideline to obtain a balanced mentality.
Get a new look: Personally, I don’t need to follow this particular tip because my looks are timeless- never boring. However, those in a slump should try a different hairstyle, lose 100 pounds, get colored contacts, I don’t really care. A lot of times we get bored, because we are used to what we see. So… change it, duh.
Buy lots of new things: It’s time to spoil yourself since you are mentally unstable! Whatever you’ve been secretly dying to buy, go for it. Especially if it is what I have been secretly dying for. I will graciously accept your offering strictly because it is for your benefit. Remember, it’s okay to be selfish sometimes but even better to give me things!
Lend a Helping Hand: Just because the season of giving has ended, does not mean you need to stop giving. Reach out a helping hand to those in need. It always makes both parties feel better. I am in need of A Hang Out Fest ticket in case you couldn’t come up with any other ideas.
Do the things you will never be able to do again at any given time due to prior work obligations, family, social acceptance, etc: College is one big experience. No matter what year, it’s the perfect excuse to just let loose, but most importantly, find out who you are. You have your whole life to grow up, so slow down, enjoy the year, and always use the excuse: “It’s _____ year, it’s fine.” If you all need any suggestions for making the rest of your semester exciting, I will simply reminisce on my freshman year self- a sacrifice for you all, of course.
