Back to the Grind
After several weeks of winter break, I often find myself struggling to get back in to the grind. By the grind I mean the daily and weekly routine I have each week. Winter break is a much-deserved amount of time students are allowed to let their brains rest. But I think most will agree when I say turning the switch back on to school is so difficult! We go from little to no responsibility to immense amounts of responsibility, whether it is school, work or Greek life activities. Over the years I have come up with a few tricks to help get myself back into the swing of things. You may just have to tweak them a little bit to fit you. First, I have realized that those days of sleeping in until 10 or 11 are over, and I have to get my body ready for early wake up calls. To prepare for the first week back, I start waking up at least an hour earlier for my last week of break. It is a struggle, but it makes the first week back at school much easier. Since school has already started, you may have to save this tip for next year, but I promise you it helps so much! I also try to get my head back in the school mode. Usually that means getting all of my folders and materials ready before the first day. This makes me realize that I actually do have to start a new semester, whether I like it or not. And finally, I try to get back to my regular schedule of eating, working out, and going out with friends. By figuring out and implementing my routine again, I think it’s a lot easier to transition back to school and everything else in life. Winter break is a great time to relax and recuperate from fall semester’s craziness, but it also can lead to laziness. Try to keep yourself busy during breaks and keep as much of your routine the same as possible to make the transition back easier! I am assuming I am not the only one who thinks coming back is a struggle and hoping that these few tips can help this year and the years to follow.
