What's On Your List For Christmas?

Sarah Oates

Only a couple more weeks left to think about what you might want to see under that tree Christmas morning. Now I realize that we are too old for Santa, but we are never too old for a pile of presents to be waiting for us, even if it is under a Christmas tree. If you’re tired every year when asked, “What do you want for Christmas?” answering with, “I don’t know I already have an iPhone”, here’s some ideas to put on your list.

If you’ve been living under a shell for the past couple years and don’t know yet that the top presents to ask for is anything Mac, then your list is about to get very long. The iPad 2 is a great piece of technology to ask for. Already proven more impressive than the first iPad; it’s quicker, offers more, and of course it’s thinner. Offered in a variety of colors, the iPad 2 is a great Christmas gift. It’s a whole new kind of learning with the iPad 2, “With its advanced design and amazing built-in apps, iPad changes the way you work” or at least that’s what Apple says.

Of course the simplest answer is money, but why not get more specific? For girls of course there’s the budgeted shopping spree. Make it more accessible to your liking and ask for a gift card to your favorite store or restaurant. Maybe you’ve got the opportunity to ask for a shopping trip in New York, Atlanta, or somewhere you’ll find more than enough items to completely overspend your budget.

With the experience of watching my 15 year-old brother ask for everything you’d never think to give as a present each year, he had some unique ideas. At the age of 14, his out of the blue, two-week passion for building a go-kart came up right around Christmas time and he asked for nothing but a welding machine. After that it was the burning desire to have a crossbow and arrow. This present did turn out to be one of the favorites. Boys are always the hardest to shop for, but toys like these keep them entertained… for a limited time, then it’s back to thinking about what you’ll have to get them next year and you’ve barely even finished opening your presents from this Christmas.

The one gift that can be enjoyed by all and wanted by many is a relaxing, exciting, adventurous vacation. I find this to be a favorite of mine; you can’t ask for a trip to Turkey too many times… it never gets old. Although the results of actually getting a trip like that have yet to be determined, it’s always top of the list for me. When your Turkey, Greece, India or any other exotic wants of a gift fall through, there are those more doable trips that have, in my experience, served as the most memorable gift to receive. A sweater will last a year or two then soon be thrown out, but a trip to New York City during the winter time is something you can never forget. One of the most memorable things to get to do is experience New York City during Christmas time, and if you’re lucky enough to even get to ask for it, put it at the top of your list.
