We Bleed Maroon (And Eat Barbeque)

On Thursday, Nov. 10, Delta Gamma held their first ever Backyard Barbeque. The barbeque was held in the back parking lot of the Delta Gamma house and is a brand new philanthropy event benefiting Service for Sight, DG’s national philanthropy. Wanting to change things up a little bit, Delta Gamma’s Director of Fundraising, Ashley Hubbard, decided to put on the barbeque event, pleasantly surprising everyone around her.

Backyard Barbeque began at 7:00, and guests ate chopped beef sandwiches catered by Church St. BBQ. They sat at hay bales and maroon tables adorned with cowboy boots and sunflowers. The true entertainment of the night began when Texas Country singer and fellow Aggie Granger Smith took the stage. Starting with his latest single, “Sleeping on the Interstate,” and ending with the traditional “We Bleed Maroon,” Granger Smith was a huge hit. Girls screaming, couples dancing, and everyone singing along made the chilly night feel a little bit warmer. Granger Smith presented a signed maroon guitar to the ladies of Delta Gamma and was available to meet and greet all guests after the concert.

The first Backyard Barbeque definitely turned out to be a success. Apparently, eating great BBQ and listening to Texas country music is the key to raising money for philanthropy!
