Christmas Already?

Vaughn Parker
Kappa Kappa Gamma

Since the middle of November, everyone is getting eager about already being so close to finals and winter break!   As we breezed through Thanksgiving, I can’t help but realize how Christmas was already the holiday of focus. It is crazy to think of all those who bought Christmas décor and gifts when we hadn’t even had our Thanksgiving feasts!

I know that Christmastime is probably the happiest or most celebrated time of year, but I can’t help but feel sorry for Thanksgiving and how easily it is ignored once the Christmas songs come on the radio. From Starbucks’ early release of holiday cups and peppermint mochas to Justin Bieber’s new Christmas CD, it’s easy to see how winter holidays get a jump-start. After all, even the grocery stores, malls, and apartment complexes are moving those Christmas decorations out on display. Have you walked into any of the home furnishing stores lately? You can satisfy all of your Christmas decorating needs before they even have time put up the fall plates and cups.

Even though marketing seems to throw the holidays at us as quickly as they can get new advertisements out, it’s nice to be able to have a little bit of the holiday season amidst the stress of finals and the semester ending. The good news is that we get to look forward to Christmas all throughout December because the stores all around College Station are already prepared for the holiday season!

I remember last year thinking about how fast Christmas came and went. It seemed like when I finally got to be home for winter break, Christmas was already around the corner! It felt as if there was no time to really enjoy all of the little things we love about Christmastime that lead up to this great celebration. That’s when I got to thinking about how lucky we are to have some of the holiday decorations and festivities out so early. There’s no better way to relieve stress about finals then to enjoy a limited time coffee beverage, or listen to Christmas music on your way to class. Relieve some stress and get ready for Christmas to be here before you know it!
