Some UGG-tastic advice

It’s winter, and we live in Ohio.  This means more snow, ice and sleet than any sorority girl wishes to see in her entire lifetime.  Those beautiful new gray UGGs that sat so peacefully underneath your Christmas tree now have disgusting white salt stains on them mixed with dirt.

I would suggest that no matter what you own: Bearpaws, Emus, UGGS, or knockoffs, you purchase a cleaning kit.  They run around $20, and in the kit is pre-cleaning spray that I think works great for rain and snow.  You just spray your boots and let them sit for a day and you are good to wear them.  The only problem is that the spray does not treat for salt.

Because salt is laid all over campus, you can’t avoid it.  Therefore, the pre-spray isn’t going to do much for our boots.  Also, in the kit is a cleaning brush and cleaning spray, so when your precious boots get stained, there is a chance of saving them!

I’ve already had to throw 2 pairs of my boots away because I wore them out without pre-treating or cleaning them and I wish I would have! The twenty dollars is definitely worth buying more pairs of boots.

Another really savvy and smart option is buying an actual pair of snow boots.  I personally have a North Face pair that I could not live without.  I realized that when I was a freshman that, though they are comfortable, UGGs do get easily ruined in the snow with the salt that is laid.

I’ve also seen girls try out rain boots for the inclement weather.  Let’s just say, I wouldn’t say don’t wear them because they are water-proof, but they aren’t very well insulated.  Being that this week the wind chill has been close to negative eight degrees, I think I would invest in a pair of nice snow boots and even wear a pair of thick fuzzy socks with those.

Now you may say that I’m being particular here, but I know that there are two things and only two things I’m thinking of when I’m walking to class in the winter: my feet and my hands.  Now you can deal with your hands on your own time, but I think that when your feet are warm, you are a happy walker.

So my advice is this: take care of those UGG boots or whatever boot you have for the winter! Also, if you know you’re going to be staying in Ohio for a while, get some snow boots! Keep those feet warm and you’ll be happy.   We’ve still got a few more months of winter, so good luck!
