It's a Fashion RevolutionWalk into any class and I guarantee you can pick out the sorority women right away. Nike shorts (or norts for those who love speaking in abbrevs), sorority T-shirt/frat tank, sunglasses with croakies hanging around their necks, giant pearl earrings, a perfectly made up face, and a ponytail complete the look of the stereotypical sorority girl. Before I go any further, let me say that I am not immune to this phenomenon. I will readily admit that I have rocked this look while grabbing lunch at the house and walking around campus. I completely understand the appeal but ladies; I think it's time for a fashion revolution when it comes to class attire. Since you already made the effort to put on your makeup, why not style your hair? There are tons of cute and easy styles that are great alternatives to the simple ponytail. You could try adding a French braid to the front of your hair that ties back into your ponytail or bun for a fresh and fun look. You could do an intentionally messy ponytail that's the latest celebrity trend or add some curls for a more glam look. If you're not headed to the gym right after class, you could even wear it down! If you’re like me and get bored just sitting there straightening your hair, an easy solution is to put in some wavy or curly hair product and proudly wear your natural texture. Also, a really cool new tool is the curling wand which many of my sisters are obsessed with. It’s like a curling iron but without the clamp. All you do is take a piece of hair, wrap it around the wand, hold it for ten-fifteen seconds and let go. Voila! Beautiful curls in no time. How much hair you curl at a time depends on if you want more soft loose curls (more hair) or springy ringlets (less hair). You’ll also want to hold it less time for looser curls and more time for tighter ones. Now that we've discussed hair, let's move on to attire. Just because you're wearing a T-shirt or tank doesn't mean the rest of your outfit has to be uber casual as well. It's amazing that you're repping your house by wearing your letters but to add some pizazz, why not pair your bright formal shirt with a pair of jeans or a cute pair of shorts? Sporting a chic casual dress or a flowy maxi dress are two other great options. Sprinting across campus to make it to your class that starts in fifteen minutes is already a hassle so obviously you wouldn’t wear a high pair of heels or stacked wedges. There are tons of shoe options out there that won’t give you blisters or sore heels that aren’t sneakers. Sandals are always a great go to in the warmer months and come in tons of different styles. Try a pair in an unusual color, like turquoise, or that feature a unique design, like flowers. Ballet flats are a personal favorite of mine and go with virtually any outfit. The key to classroom dressing is to keep it comfy and cute! Of course, we can't forget about accessories though. Change it up a bit and switch out your pearls for dangling earrings that will draw attention to your face when wearing your hair up. Another hot trend right now is feathers and I'm slightly obsessed with my peacock patterned feather earrings. There’s much more to accessories than earrings so don’t forget about necklaces, bracelets, and rings. An unusual necklace always dresses up a plain outfit and an armful of jangly bangles adds pizazz. Market Wednesday always has a wide array of jewelery that’s guaranteed to catch your eye. Most of the pieces are handcrafted by the vendors so they’re one of a kind and awesome. It always makes me feel special to know I’m wearing something that only I own and I want you to experience that feeling as well! We are all outstanding Panhellenic women and should put in the little bit of extra time in the morning to reflect that. There are also tons of benefits! Studies have proven that when you look and feel your best, you perform better with regards to school work. Dressing up will also prepare you for the workplace where you'll be expected to look nice every day. Who knows, you may even catch the eye of that cutie sitting next to you or make a new friend who compliments your look. Stay beautiful ladies and don't forget to keep it classy.
