Leadership is an extremely important attribute to any organization. In fact, without leadership, many groups, societies, clubs, neighborhoods, schools, teams and all people that make up a group have a hard time facilitating goals. Using skills to effectively complete tasks or duties of an organization without some form of management is very hard to accomplish as well. This sounds familiar to all Greeks because we are in the midst of leadership every day. Our fraternities and sororities all have a social hierarchy. Even beyond our Greek system at San Diego State University, there are numerous amounts of leaders that steer our campus life. It is crucial to promote leadership and leadership opportunity when there is a chance to. Leadership broadens our horizons and makes all of our resumes look that much more competitive. It is amazing how much having a leadership position can teach us about ourselves as well. When we are responsible for a certain aspect of the chapter, we learn that our actions and the way we work affects those looking up to us. The great thing to take away from this is that when in control, the decisions you make are not just for yourself but for the entire organization. However, not everyone deserves to learn how this feels, as well as experience calling the shots because there are not many people who can effectively and respectfully live their life while being a role model for others. Every year in Greek life, new presidents, officers, executive boards and offices become available positions in every chapter. The goal for your chapter should be to get as many people as interested in leading as possible. All it takes is courage and effort to put in the time to practice and prepare for a position. In Kappa Delta it was recently decided to display a Chain of Command board in the house for the entire chapter to visibly be able to see who their current appointed officers and executive board for the year are. The board is a great organizational tool and more than that a fabulous way for the chapter to contact the girls in each office for administrative things as well as to learn what the position they are in entails. This Chain of Command board reflects how much Kappa Delta takes pride in their leadership. I am honored to be a part of a sorority who takes great efforts to encourage girls to get involved and ready for the future for leadership which a school, organization and career always needs.
