Dip, Dodge, Duck, Dive, Dominate!!
This past weekend was Pi Beta Phi's spring philanthropy event Dodge the Arrow! A dodge ball tournament benefitting the fight against illiteracy through the Pi Phi Foundation, as well as locally through the Barbara Bush Parent Center. This was their second year putting the event on and it was a huge success! The tournament was double elimination with Pi Phis serving as the coaches, cheerleaders and referees. It was broken up into a girls bracket and a guys bracket with people forming teams of eight to ten players; all in all there were 51 total teams! Every sort of organization came out to play; from Fraternities and Sororities, to the Corps of Cadets, to club sports teams. It was a great mix of people! ADPi, Tri Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Theta and Chi Omega, were all there and there’s no better way to spread Panhellenic Spirit than by hurling a ball at each other, am I right? It was so much fun to see everyone cheering each other on and meeting all sorts of new people! The difference in the atmosphere of the girls’ gyms as opposed to the guys’ gyms was crazy. Once you walked into a guy’s gym it was like entering a war zone, you really had to watch out so you didn’t get hit. From the boys bracket, this years third place winner was the Aggie Mens Club, second place went to, Tony Perkins and The Heavyweights and first place was the BCA Guppies! The winner of the girls bracket was Can’t Close the Yearbook, a team comprised of grad students mostly from Pi Phi and Theta. These girls completely dominated the championship round it was over in about two minutes. For the title, they played the women’s club soccer team, The Black Sheep. My sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, formed a team this year aka Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop and we had a blast! Not only did we have the best coach ever, Caroline Jerome, but the most enthusiastic cheerleader out there... me! We watched the first round of games to pick up some of the handy strategies that were being used by other teams. Everyone was having a great time, but the second those games started it was strictly competition and you just had to win. Our team ended up with third place in the girls bracket, making us the highest placing sorority there! I could not be any more proud of my sisters and I know we all can’t wait to play next year... when we will be bringing home that first place trophy!
