Panhellenic Woman of the Month
The University of Florida’s Panhellenic Council has recently reinstated their “Panhellenic Woman of the Month” honor. The title will be based on nominations from each chapter. Of those women, the Panhellenic Executive will review applications and decide on a winner each month. Sam Wiley, special events director, and her committee are hoping to make Panhellenic Woman of the Month a longstanding tradition, she said. Wiley admits that the first time the award was active it was loosely implemented. However, this time the council strives for participation from all of the chapters. “At the end of the month, each chapter will vote on a Panhellenic Woman of the Month nomineee from their particular chapter. All 16 nominees fill out a form describing how they have fulfilled the four pillars of the Panhellenic Council that month,” she said. The pillars that Wiley speaks of are scholarship, leadership, community and service, the key characteristics that they intend winners of this honor to exemplify. Wiley said that the reaction from the Panhellenic chapters has been quite accepting of the campaign. She said it helps to foster Panhellenic togetherness within the community. “The honorable woman will be graced with a surprise announcement to her chapter during dinner. We plan on announcing the winner toward the end of February,” Wiley said. February's winner was Mackenzie Pape from Kappa Delta. She was nominated by Kappa Delta and then was selected out of all other nominees by a Panhellenic board.
