What Guys Really Think About What You Wear

Augusta Neal
Kappa Kappa Gamma

When a Texas Tech girl wakes up in the morning, one of a few things goes through her mind before leaving for class: 1) Where are my freaking Nike shorts, I’m so late for this 8 a.m. This oversized tee that I slept in will work for a top. 2) I finally get to try out that smokey-eye make up I saw from Pinterest! 3) It’s 70 degrees outside?!? Perfect weather for Uggs!

I think it is safe to say that almost every girl can fall into one of those pre-class thought process categories. I also think it is safe to say that guys have grown accustomed to seeing girls Nike shorts, oversized tees, Uggs and rain-boots. I doubt I’m even overstepping any boundaries by stating that as you’re reading this, you know in the back of your head that you own all four of those items. Admit it. Even the rain boots.

The fact of the matter is, that even though guys are used to seeing us wear Nike shorts and Uggs in 70+ degree weather (and those of you who are still violating this, you’ve really got to put a stop to the madness), it doesn’t mean that they accept it. While it’s understandable that guys usually don’t appreciate fashion and trends, I think us girls can all agree on the fact that we do take their opinion to heart when we get dressed on the weekends (at least sometimes, right?). So this week I set out to get the scoop on what the men think of our weekly get-ups.

First let me introduce you to the victims I surveyed:

Nick Hance, Junior, Sigma Nu,

Ford Braly, Junior, Kappa Alpha

Amir Ali Ravassipou, Junior, Sigma Nu

Nicolas J. Cole, Junior, Sigma Nu

Webb Clark, Junior, Delta Tau Delta

What do you typically see girls wear day to day?

            Nick: Tights and big T-shirts.

            Ford: Tights, boots, Nike shorts.

Nicolas: Nike shorts, leggings, oversized t-shirts, rectangular-shaped backpacks with initials on them.

Webb: girls wear all kinds of crazy stuff.

What do you usually see girls wearing to bars?

Nick: More dressed up, jeans, nicer looking tops than they wear to class.

Ford: Jeans and riding boots or skirts.

What comes to mind when you see a girl wearing an XL tee with norts (Nike shorts)?

            Nick: Girl in a sorority

Ford: Nothing really its pretty normal to me now.

Nicolas: I think she's in a sorority and didn't feel like putting actual clothes on and/or wanted to be comfortable.

            Webb: I assume she's in a sorority.

What is your first thought when you see a girl wearing a tight skirt and shirt at the bars?

            Nick: Dress to impress.

            Webb: Tight skirts are great.

Does it scare you away when girls wear bright lipstick?

            Nick: No.

            Ford: Never noticed a difference.

Nicolas: I'm not a huge fan of bright colored lipstick.

Webb: Sometimes. Really pale girls should not wear bright lipstick.

Do you care if a girl dresses “in style”? AKA does it matter to you if a girl is trendy?

Nick: Typically looks good and stands out as long as they long look like they're trying to rival Lady Gaga.

Ford: Definitely like a trendier dress.

Nicolas: Not really. If she looks good, she looks good. A trend can look bad.

Amir: To be honest im not into fashion that much so if a girl is in style thats her choice.

Webb: Not really as long as she's not looking like white trash. Style should be unique to the individual and I like girls who can mix it up.

Do you prefer city-girl style (skinny jeans and heels) or country-girl style (daisy dukes and boots)?

            Nick: Both.

            Ford: City girl style.

            Nicolas: City girl style.

Amir: It really depends on the place and the time. But I do like the country style a little better.

Webb: Like I said, I like I a girl who can mix it up. Both of the looks can be sexy.

Do you think Tech girls generally look sloppy for class?

Nick: Sometimes, some actually try and look presentable in the business school most the time.

            Ford: In the summer, yes.

Nicolas: Not at all, for the most part.

Webb:  No Tech girls look great in class to me.

What are you general thoughts on rain boots?

Nick: Should only be worn when it's wet outside and it's practical.
