Studying? There's An App For That
It’s about that time again: midterms. Can you believe it’s almost spring break and we’re halfway done with the semester? I sure can’t, but I think it’s because I’m in complete denial that I’m graduating this year. I would love to take an extra semester now that the end is near. I’m stuck in the awkward in-between of senioritis and freaking the eff out. To all of you underclassmen, stay here as long as you can. But that’s enough anxiety-filled ranting. Midterms might not seem like that big of a deal and some professors don’t even give out midterm exams, but this marks the halfway point. That means you only have about nine weeks to pick those grades up. Yeah, now it doesn’t seem like a lot of time does it? Don’t have a panic attack just yet. We live in a technological world, and you know what? If you’ve got a problem, there’s an app for that. Here are some of my favorite study apps, which will help keep you organized and might help you improve your grades by finals! Evernote: This app is my best friend. I type all of my notes and record lectures, and it keeps all of my stuff synced on my phone, iPad, and computer. You can access everything online too so you can always get to your notes as long as you have an Internet connection. StudyBlue: Tired of regular flash cards? StudyBlue is an online and app driven flash card program so you don’t have to lug around a bunch of notecards with you. You can keep hundreds of notecards right there on your smart phone and quiz yourself whenever you want. iStudiez Pro: Not only does this app organize your class schedule, but it also helps you keep track of your assignments. You can color code your classes and arrange assignments based on priority, keeping everything nice and neat and synced in iCloud. Penultimate: Don’t want to type your apps? Penultimate lets you handwrite your apps right from your iPad. You can draw diagrams and pictures right alongside your notes for enhanced studying. Or doodling. Wolfram Course Assistants: Not good at math? Yeah me neither, that’s why I’m a writer. But math apps can seriously help you out if you’re not too great with numbers. Wolfram has several app assistants from Calculus to Algebra to Physics to help you with all of your calculation needs. Grades 2: I don’t really know anything about Grades 1, but Grades 2 lets you plug in your classes and those pesky grading scales and percentages from your syllabi. You simply type in the grades you got, and Grades 2 calculates the grade you currently have. You can also figure out what grade you need to make on a test to get a certain average. It’s a really good way to keep track of your grades without having to figure out the percentages on your own. Bonus Apps-Not For Studying University of Alabama: Yeah, we’ve got an app. You should probably download it. It’s got a directory, course list, maps, library catalog, bus routes, and more. Angry Birds: It’s actually been proven that Angry Birds increases brain activity and can keep you more alert. So go ahead and destroy those little pigs! You can now claim it’s making you smarter. Words With Friends: Exercise your vocabulary and learn some new words. And by learn I mean put random combinations together and resist the urge to cheat because your friend is trash-talking you.
