Jersey Babayyy: Wasting Time Websites
Don’t you hate it when a professor doesn’t allow a laptop in class? I mean, how are we expected to stay awake for a 45-minute lecture on topics that we may have to incorporate into our professional lives one day?! Everyone has their go-to favorite websites for killing time during class, but finding websites entertaining enough to kill time during work is often a challenge… Facebook just doesn’t cut the mustard all the time. I have compiled a list of my three favorite websites to peruse during the workday when the emails are slowing and lunch has already been served. 1. Pandora. Pandora.com and other websites/apps like it (if you haven’t yet, look into Spotify, it’s great!) help me survive during lulls in the workday. I’m kind of a music freak and listen to anything and everything… minus dubstep that crap is annoying. According to a professional survey conducted by me on myself only, I have found my productivity rates to increase by 67 percent when I listen to music at work… my Kanye West and Stacy’s Mom playlists were bangin’ the other day! If I don’t have Pandora on at work, you can kiss any worker bee-ness out of me goodbye. 2. Pinterest. Obviously every single sorority girl has at least heard of Pinterest, but in case your computer’s been broken for the last few months or something, Pinterest’s popularity as a wedding/craft/food picture Twitter/blog (yeah that’s the best description I can think of) has skyrocketed in our dear community. Now, I got a Pinterest this summer and have been an avid user ever since with more than 2,150 pins to my name… and I can honestly say that my number of pins probably grew more than a thousand during downtimes at my desk. Have I made anything I’ve pinned? Honestly, not recently, BUT it’s great to have a place to store all my rainy day ideas/fantasies! Or just pictures of my future wedding with my non-existent significant other with our 234,594,123 cute animals I’ve found while online shopping for clothes I can’t afford… 3. Absolutelymadness. Finally, Absolutelymadness.tumblr.com is probably a website that many of you actually haven’t heard of… now, the nerd in me has been a funny picture/“meme” fan for a while now. With the birth of UTK Memes on Facebook (#shoutout!), I feel UT’s student body now deserves the right to know about all of the other hilarity that will ensue when looking at a website of these pictures of a much wider breadth. The main problem with this website is that it makes me laugh so much in my cubicle that I’m nervous it will soon give away the fact that I sometimes lack actual work to do. I don’t want it to sound like I am just wasting time on the computer all day at this amazing opportunity that Johnson & Johnson has given me, but everyone needs a little break at some point during the day right?! Happy computing everyone!
