AE: Live Your Life
You are just enjoying your nice little basketball game after a hard day's work of classes. More than 100 students - mostly girls but not all - suddenly line up along the Rec Center’s basketball courts all ready to get their sweat on. Music blaring as you try to continue your game and argue whose ball it is but you can’t hear each other because all of a sudden you hear this girl start screaming into a microphone and the floor starts to shake. This is probably what any boy playing basketball at Miami’s Rec Center experienced a few weeks back on Jan. 31. American Eagle Outfitters sponsored a free kickboxing class as part of their brand awareness. The event was called New Year, New You. The class started at 7:30 and people lined up to sign in with the hopes of winning the $50 AE gift card as well as receive their free AE tumbler. The event was a huge success and a big thanks goes out to the Rec Center for all their support in hosting the event. This is just one of the many events AE has put on throughout Miami’s campus this year. I am a Brand Ambassador for American Eagle this year, so I am in charge of putting on all these crazy events. Last semester we had many fun ones such as a Move In Day event with the freshmen, a spontaneous event were we came to Greek Week football and passed out free AE foam footballs to toss around while waiting for your team to play, or even the popular Christmas Hunt where we hid all sorts of prizes around Miami’s campus in hopes that some lucky students would stumble upon them. Now many of you may be thinking that American Eagle is so “high school” and that no one on Miami’s campus, especially not Greeks, wear American Eagle. Since we are a preppy school, this fact may be true because I myself love to shop at JCrew, Anthropologie, and well you get the gist. However, I am here to give my few cents about why AE can be a great brand for us college students. I can honestly say that by working with American Eagle this year I have seen them start to transform. They are completely revamping their style into a more wearable one for us college students. There are no longer as many big sweatshirts or T-shirts with a big huge “AE” written across the chest, but instead there are brightly colored stripes, patterns, and only the little eagle to remind you whose brand you are wearing. American Eagle is so affordable, and for many of us college students on a tight budget, this is just the brand you need to look trendy for class. Next time you are shopping at the mall, before you go blow your budget on that really cute shirt from JCrew that probably 90 percent of girls on this campus will be strutting, run on over to AE and you just might be surprised as to what you might find. Also, here at Miami don’t forget to look out for up-and-coming events we have planned for the rest of the semester (sorry that was my plug!)
