Too Much Of A Shore Thing

As MTV struggles to get the attention of college students around the world, another season of "Jersey Shore" takes its debut on national TV. Season five? Really? Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that the cast of "Jersey Shore" definitely caught the eyes of many partiers and club goers, but how long is this party really going to last? If you haven’t been caught up on the most recent news of the "Jersey Shore" fandango, which no one would blame you if you haven’t, the cast was literally kicked out of Italy in the latest season. Doing research on the TV show’s accomplishments, I realized that I was not the only one getting tired of the overly dramatic fight scenes and listening to little orange meatballs fight about who stole their hookup buddy. At the beginning of the fourth season, 8.8 million viewers tuned into MTV to watch these “gorilla juiceheads” embark on their journey into Europe. At the finale, only 6.6 million people actually cared enough to see the dramatic ending of them bidding Italy farewell. With these results, this latest season has had the least viewers, and I predict this new season will not be any different.

For this next season, the Guidos and Guidettes will be headed back to Seaside to continue their life-long fiesta. Personally, I think that five seasons has gotten to be a little bit too overwhelming. Most of the cast has reached the appropriate age of 25, with some exceptions of DJ Pauly D and Mike “The Situation” reaching 30 years old and the drama that they incorporate into their show has become a little repetitive. Honestly, it is the same thing every season; they are just switching up the location. No matter where these people are, they get a little bit too incoherent and they begin making trouble. To understand how these people got famous for doing things that most of us find socially unacceptable is beyond me.

I will however admit that I was talked into being a "Jersey Shore" member for Halloween this year, and personally I felt like I had an excuse to pardon my actions downtown simply because I was in “gorilla mode,” and because Halloween fell on a Monday, resulting in cheap party supplies downtown. Looking back on pictures from Halloween night, I literally thought to myself “I look so dumb.” Honestly, I think that one of the reasons that the cast from "Jersey Shore" has become famous is because people like making fun of them. One night in gorilla mode is one too many nights for me. Overall I think that the show has seen its last days, and after this season they will be fist pumping all the way off the TV guide.
