Kick Start Your New Year's Resolutions
A new year means new beginnings. It’s the beginning of a fresh start and the perfect time to make new resolutions. At the beginning of each new year, we set resolutions for ourselves that we almost never follow. It’s time to create resolutions that we can actually follow through with. Here are a couple simple and easy ways to kick-start your New Year's resolutions. Eat Healthy. A promise to start eating healthy is something we make every day, with the excuse of “I’ll just start tomorrow since it’s already lunch time today…” immediately following. An easier way to keep up with the resolution of staying healthy is to cut out certain foods that you know are less healthy than others. In an article from Time Magazine a certified nutritionist explains what foods you shouldn’t eat in order to stay healthy and lose weight. The professional explains that certain foods like orange juice, artificial sweeteners, and whole wheat bread, actually turn into sugar in your body once digested. They explain that foods like these have substitutes that taste just as good and are a whole lot healthier. The article explains that foods that contain things like Canola and Vegetable oil, Margarine, and substitute fake butter, are things that should be avoided because they store fat. However, foods that contain coconut oil, whole eggs, real butter, and avocados (etc.) are healthier because they actually burn fat. So instead of setting an impossible goal of eating nothing but salads and drinking water, just pay attention to the ingredients of what you buy and you won’t have to fill your diet with tasteless foods. Save Money. After all the drinks at the bars, late night pizzas ordered, and 24 packs of Natty Light bought, the monthly allowance goes pretty quickly. A college student’s budget is a hard one to manage, but there are some tricks to keep from blowing it all in the first week of the month. Try budgeting how much you spend a week. Limit yourself to a specific amount of money you can spend a week. Plan out what days and nights you will spend your money on food and such. This way you can keep track of how much you have left for the rest of the month. Another way to save some money is only take a certain amount to the bar before you go out, maybe even leave your credit card at home… A smart way to not over spend your money in one night on shots and mixed drinks is to limit how much you can spend. You’ll be happy the next day to know that you smartly left your credit card at home that night to avoid either leaving it at the bar or spending more in one night than you have for the whole month. New Year's resolutions don’t have to be impossible to follow. They can be easy ways to benefit your everyday life. Maybe they’ll even catch on and turn into your everyday way of living. If we set the bar too high for these New Year's resolutions, most likely we’ll end up quitting, but if the process of following them is gradual and simple, then our resolutions can be successful and beneficial!
