17 Times Liz Lemon Understood The Struggle

Whenever I think of adulthood, I either do one of two things: Start over-thinking every decision I have made in my life up until now and how it will impact my future, or cry. It’s terrifying. It’s hard to imagine actually having to grow up and take on things that you’re expected to breeze through effortlessly like everyone else. I don’t want to have to learn how to do my taxes or which laundry detergent is best. I want to binge watch shows on Netflix and go out to concerts, but you unfortunately can’t have these privileges without taking on new responsibilities. At many times, it feels as if other adults don’t understand this struggle to not want to do tedious tasks. And in times when I feel I cannot vent my frustrations to others, I turn to my one sole, trusted confidant: Liz Lemon. She is by far one of the most realistic, well-humored and clever characters I have seen on television. She proves that even though you may be an adult, doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out, and doesn’t mean you’re so willing to abandon your childhood fantasies.

1. She proved that just because you’re an adult, doesn’t mean you should be expected to know everything.

2. That exercise doesn’t always pay off.

3. It’s hard being a baller on a budget.

4. How self-deprecation is a very, very real thing.

5. How sometimes you need to put your coworkers in their place.

6. When she didn’t have time to tolerate those younger than her.

7. When she posed the most relevant question.

8. And then tried to figure out the answer for herself.

9. She proved how easy it is to get emotionally invested in reality television shows.

10. Sometimes you just need a break from everything, including people.

11. When she demonstrated how the rules of courtship should be.

12. And how having a plethora of technology at our fingertips isn’t always the greatest.

13. When she had to fight the age-old assumption that being single is a bad thing.

14. But when successful romantic endeavors do occur, they demand to be celebrated!

15. How you have a tough time letting go of bad habits.

16. When she summed up the ideal life in one sentiment.

17. And that some questions demand to be asked, no matter how ridiculous they may seem.

God bless you, Liz Lemon, as you endure the struggle along with us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
