As a proud 90's baby and Millennial, I recognize there are many things generations older than us don't understand about the way we operate.
If one more person over the age of 40 assumes I can flawlessly fix his or her computer or question how I type so fast on my phone, I may just lose it.
But upon reflection of the unique habits of our generations, I found myself struggling to explain many of them. Here are a few trends Millennials do or started that many people, even ourselves, don't know how to explain.
1. Binge-watching television shows on Netflix.
Why we think it's better to sit at home and waste entire days watching one series rather than pacing ourselves is something I'm not sure anyone will ever understand.
2. Taking pointless internet quizzes.
Buzzfeed is pretty amazing, but even if they can guess my age from what kitten I think is cutest, why do I care?
3. Thinking it's alright to use text abbreviations in everyday speech.
Even we find it annoying when we do it.
4. Not valuing in-person interactions.
Speaking to others in person as opposed to through a phone is not something people should fear doing.
5. Thinking texting and walking or driving isn't that hard.
I have yet to meet someone who is good at it. I know a lot of people.
6. Same day delivery.
With the exception of very few things, I can think of nothing I couldn't possibly wait two days for and get with Amazon Prime.
7. Snapchatting all the time.
Unrelated but important, why did the update come with such scary filters?
8. Using emojis with everything.
Next thing we know, job applications will be asking for the emoji with which you most identify.
9. Posting embarrassing pictures for a friend's birthday.
"Happy 20th! Here are the ugliest selfies you've ever taken! You're welcome!"
10. Getting news from the Twitter app as opposed to the CNN app.
PSA: Real news sources still exist and are just as easy to download and check.
11. FOMO
We need to stop checking Instagram every ten seconds when we stay in. It's just not healthy.
12. Correcting grammar like it's your day job.
Yes, we understand you're educated, but no one likes that person. Just stop.
13. Considering frisbee a real sport.
A fun activity with friends? Yes. But a sport that needs to be taken more seriously than politics? No.
14. Being too "indie" to wear full shirts.
Do they not get cold? It just doesn't seem efficient to be wearing half of a shirt at all times.
15. Commenting mean things online anonymously.
It's just mean. Not much to it. Again, let's just stop.
16. Longing for the 90's as if it were the simpler time we enjoyed, but actually most of us were barely alive.
Better times in the sense we didn't have any responsibilities? Yes. But that's about it...
