Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year

Are we growing up or just going down?

Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year

Sophomore year is the year of forgotten students whether it be in high school or college. We are no longer the babies of the campus, yet we aren't old enough to run the school. Most of our advisors are busy with their freshman RSP classes, and while we search for a new advisor, we contemplate which major we wish to pursue. If you are feeling the sophomore slump, here are a few tips to help you make a comeback of the year.

First off, you should expand your social circle by befriending upperclassmen and freshmen.

If you are in a sorority or fraternity, this is the perfect time to get to know the older members in your Greek organization. They can help guide you on which teachers and classes to take to keep you on track of your major as well as showing you different hangout spots downtown and throughout the neighborhood.

Secondly, as you have probably heard too many times to count, stay involved.

Maybe you signed up for way too many clubs freshman year to build up your resume, but this year, focus on being really involved in the clubs you are passionate about. If that means you devote all of your time to one club, so be it. It is better to be fully engaged with one or two clubs, rather than spreading yourself too thin and not being able to participate in events for the six clubs you have joined.

Thirdly, don't get cocky.

Stop trying to always impress other people, and focus on what you are doing to improve yourself. Nobody wants to hear that you spent eight hours in the library on a Friday night, conversely, nobody wants to hear about how you took eight shots last night and blacked out. Thank God, every single one of us is a unique individual who does stuff differently.

Fourth of all, get your game face on.

As you are deciding your major, classes and internships are going to get competitive. Focus on your long-term end goal. Is it med school? Law school? Running your own business? Re-ignite your motivation, you are almost halfway done, and ahead of all the people who have dropped school. Use this usually unnoticeable year to get that GPA shooting through the roof.

Lastly, take advantage of being the inconspicuous class.

Take this year to do fun things that you might not have time to do outside of college. Are you an adrenaline junky? Look up skydiving opportunities in your area. Try a recent hair color trend now because soon that won't be acceptable in the workplace.

Follow these tips to make a comeback of the year! If you ever feel yourself falling into the sophomore slump, just remember you only have two options, give in or give up. Don't give up because this is all worth it in the end.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
