As I sit day after day studying from sunrise to sunset, I can't help but daydream about coming home for the summer and how much fun it will be after finals. In my procrastination, I made a list of everything I'm looking forward to after finals. Here are some reasons you too can look forward to finishing finals and being home for the summer.
1. No more finals equals no more obligations.
Without having to prioritize finals you can do whatever you want. It's summer, and if you're like me, you're still pasty white from the long winter and are in desperate need of a tan. In order to resolve this issue, you can look forward to laying out with a book and just basking in the sun, tanning and thinking of how great it is to be done with finals. You don't really have anything super important to do, so I grant you the obligation of tanning in the sun, doing absolutely nothing, and celebrating the start of summer.
2. Family.
Honestly, there is nothing as special (or as fun) as spending time with your family. Whether you have siblings or no siblings, summer is a great time to plan out fun things and catch up with the people who will always be there for the rest of your life, and who know you inside and out. Take your brother biking through your neighborhood, your sister to the beach, or your mom out to dinner, and really catch up in a way that's more fulfilling and meaningful than over the phone once a week.
3. High school friends.
It's so much fun to look forward to hanging out with your friends from high school or who grew up with you. It's a great time to rediscover the city and do the things you've always wanted to do. It's always so hard to keep in touch with friends during the school year and summer provides the perfect opportunity to fill each other in on the parties, drama, relationship issues and the loads of fun you have had at your different schools. High school friends are the perfect go-to for filling up a day with fun summer activities, and they will be there for you through any phase of your life. So take advantage of your vacation and do the crazy things that have always been on your bucket list!
4. Cooking!
If you have been confined to dorm food, or mediocre chef food, or have to cook with little to no money every week, summer means you can cook whatever you want, whenever you want. You are no longer confined to dining hall hours or set meals times or class to rush off to, so take your time cooking up something yummy. Cooking is such a great way to be with family and enjoy meals at your leisure. You can also enjoy family dinners together, which is sometimes so much more meaningful than with your friends who have “family dinners." It's a great time to experience new foods, try new things, and have fun in the simple joys of creating what you want, when you want it.
So bon appetit to the best summer you'll have!
