If you go to school at Colorado College you've probably encountered generalizations from many. From extended family, to friends, to teachers, you've most likely heard some, if not all of these.
"So you go to college in Boulder, right?" When your relatives assume you go to CU Boulder, you usually end up using every ounce of will power to keep your wrath from exploding over a family dinner or get-together. No, I go to a school the fifteenth of the size of Boulder with it's own unique culture. It also doesn't help that no matter how many times you tell them they'll still inevitably get it wrong.
"Ohhh, I know why you are going to school in Colorado." *winks and mimics hitting a blunt* You'll probably get some annoying banter from an older brother or friend about being in one of the only states with legalized recreational marijuana. Even if you've never smoked in your life and have no plans, people will suddenly assume or joke around that you've taken the form of Snoop Dog and are smokin' weed urry day.
"CC? Does that stand for Community College?" No. Colorado College is actually an elite private institution of higher learning. Not that community college is bad, I would just like you to know where I actually go to school.
"Wait, block plan? What's that?" You'll inevitably have to explain your schools system to basically everyone several times. Therefore, you're going to have a pre planned mini speech that you tell every one what the block plan is like... "So I have each class for three-and-a-half weeks and then get a five day break and do it all over again eight times a year..."
"Three and a half weeks? You're school must be SO easy!" Oh my God. This may be the worst thing to hear. Do you want to learn a full semester of neuro science in three weeks? Fully comprehend lit theory in 23 days? Do a thesis in a single block? Yes we chose to go to school this way, and for the most part we love it, but it doesn't mean for one second that it is way easier than a semester plan.
"Why are you always in such weird clothes?" Flair (crazy clothing) is the best thing ever, but your friends from home may not understand why the latest picture you are tagged in on Facebook incorporates a large stuffed tiger, a tutu, and one of those creepy plastic horse heads as you ski down a mountain. Get ready for some fun explanations.
"Do you ever even go to school?" Between some killer weekend trips and kick-ass block break/spring breaks your friends and family will probably wonder why there are hardly any pictures of you on campus. CC students are generally super adventurous and love to get out into the rockies/surrounding national parks. Sorry, but we just chose to go to school in one of the prettiest places in the world.
"Agh, I'm so jealous of you! CC sounds awesome!" Yes. Yes it is.
