Because of some of the things that I have been through in the past 20 years of my life, self-worth and self-image are just two of the things that I hold very close to my heart.
What if you were told that you cannot do something that you love just because of the way you look? I was told this.
What if there was constant pressure on you by not only the media, but the people around you to look a certain way? I have experienced this.
For years, I thought that I did not have the ideal body. I mean, who set these standards anyways? I am here to tell you that this standard is fake, airbrushed, and cropped. Companies drastically alter women's bodies using Photoshop and other computer programs made to "enhance" and "improve" photos. Not even the model herself looks like the woman portrayed in the magazine, advertisement, etc.
Here's a great example of just that:

So if this image is not realistic, why do we strive to achieve it? The model's features have been altered so much that she doesn't even look human anymore. Humans have emotions, imperfections, weight gain (or weight loss), cravings, freckles, stretch marks, cellulite, need I go on? These
things are totally normal to have.
However, if you are not happy with the way you look, that is okay. This, too, is normal. Most people have the ability to change their exterior. All it takes is a little motivation, exercise, and maintaining a healthy diet. When changing the foods that you eat and your exercise habits, do not think of it as "going on a diet" because it will only last a few months. Think of it as a lifestyle change. It has to be something that you are going to continue for the rest of your life.
Lastly, know that no matter what your size is, you are beautiful. As you feel more comfortable with your exterior appearance, the awesome person that you have always been inside will begin to radiantly glow.
Say it with me: I am beautiful. I was made to do great things. I deserve to be happy and healthy.
