September 11, 2001—a day many Americans will never forget. Over 3,000 people were killed in New York and Washington D.C. when planes flew into The World Trade Center and Pentagon, shocking the whole nation.
Heroes rose this day. Many firefighters, police officers, and paramedics went into The World Trade Center knowing there was a chance that they might not come out.
Marcy Borders, known as "dust lady," just died at the age of 42, after battling with stomach cancer that was most likely caused from the debris on that dark cold day. She escaped the North Tower, getting out before the tower collapsed. Looking at the picture of her covered in dust shows the fear of that day.
I think each and every person knows exactly what they were doing. The world stopped turning. Something so incredibly horrible you cannot even wrap your brain around it. For me, I was in my third grade class. Sitting at a table with other students, when my teacher all of a sudden turned on the news. I remember it vividly, and I was only 8. I remember the flames and the smoke, and I was scared. I didn't understand what was going on, but everyone's parents came and got them from school. I remember taking the bus home, and my mom was waiting at the end of my driveway. I ran into her arms, still not fully understanding what happened.
Remembering 9/11 for all the people who lost their lives that day, for the ones who never got to go home to their loved ones, and to all the heroes that day. We remember them.
Today, there is a beautiful memorial where The World Trade Center was located. Written in bronze letter is everyone's name who lost their lives that day. They also built a new building called 'One World Trade Center' which is the tallest building on the Northern hemisphere. Showing the strength of America.
Never Forget.
