Sporty Summer: Six Sports To Try Before The Fall
http://www.travelettes.net/the-history-of-surfing/

When we were kids, we couldn't wait for school to let out so we could spend the whole summer outside playing with our friends. Now that we’re older, when we’re not in school, we’re usually working. Thankfully, most of us have not yet reached the point where we’re totally consumed in stressful work, long hours, and no time for fun. So when we do have a day or two away from our jobs, how should we fill the time?

So far, your summer has probably consisted of bumming on the beach, or by the pool, or binge-watching your favorite shows on Netflix. I, for example, have already re-watched all 121 episodes of Gossip Girl. Instead of lying around all summer, indoors or outdoors, here are six sports that you absolutely must try this summer.

1. Stand up paddle boarding. SUP has exploded in the last year. Unlike some of its outdoor fad counterparts, this has the potential to be a long-lived craze. Not only is it a great workout for your core, arms, back, shoulders, and quads, but you’re burning 420 calories an hour in this fun and social workout. Next time you’re on the water with friends, grab a board and race up the creek. Most water-sport outfitters have rentals, if not guided tours and lessons.

2. Ultimate Frisbee. This intense sport is nothing like throwing the disc while Spot fetches. Gather some friends for a pickup game -- it only takes seven to form a team -- or get more serious and join a league. There are ultimate organizations all over the country, so find your local group and get involved.

3. Kayaking. Kayaking is an incredible workout for your upper body and core. The average kayaker burns around 330 calories per hour and even more with a higher level of intensity. It’s a great way to work your muscles while enjoying the scenery.

4. Surfing. This one is going to take a bit more practice, but good news! You don’t have to be able to swim like Michael Phelps to rock at surfing. The board itself doubles as a flotation device! If you've
never surfed before, try it out on a long board for better balance. And if you can find an instructor who looks like Eric Geiselman, you've got some added motivation.

5. Hiking. This is an excellent way to work your legs and glutes this summer without setting foot on a stair master, thank God! Hiking burns up to 400 calories an hour and can turn into a great outdoor adventure. Beginners should stick to areas they’re familiar with or well-marked trails. Tons of water is essential, and it’s not a bad idea to wear long sleeves and pants to avoid dangerous bugs and plants.

6. Beach volleyball.

You've been keeping in shape all summer, and it’s time to show off your new bikini bod. What better way than a battle of the sexes in a beach volleyball tourney? Bonus points if you find a court that backs up to a beach bar so you can cool down with a cocktail after beating the boys!

However you decide to spend the remains of your summer, don’t let it pass you by. Be proactive and have some fun. Netflix can wait for when you need to do some serious procrastinating before midterms in the fall. There’s nothing worse than a bad case of FOMO when you start seeing your friends’ Insta adventures. Why not be the friend everyone is jealous of? Someone’s gotta fill that role, and it might as well be you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
