11 Songs For Werewolf Prom
Reynold Brown

“Werewolf Prom Night” isn’t something most people usually talk about with their Tinder matches, but almost a year ago now, when I was still single and still using the app regularly, it came up in conversation. We were trying to come up with songs in general, and it was a full moon outside, so naturally, the topic of werewolves came up. (Naturally. Everyone talks about werewolves, right?)

“Why not the DJ list at Werewolf Prom Night?” We spitballed and I still remember a few of the songs we came up with, as well as a few more that may or may not have appeared on a mix CD for a road trip to Salem on Halloween.

1. Bad Moon Rising (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin'.
I see bad times today.

Why wouldn’t a song about possible misfortune be played at a senior dance or junior prom? It’s got moon in the title, which to be honest was the main reason why it was picked, but it’s also a classic.

2. Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon)

I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen
Doing the werewolves of London
I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's
His hair was perfect

Can you imagine a group of high school werewolves howling along to the chorus of this song? I know I can.

3. Monster (Lady Gaga)

Look at him
Look at me
That boy is bad
And honestly
He's a wolf in disguise
But I can't stop staring in those evil eyes

We’ve got to have at least one good song to dance to (and that came out in the past decade). Lady Gaga fits both requirements with “Monster".

4. Dancing in the Moonlight (Toploader)

Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Maybe the theme of this playlist is less “Prom Night” and more “Werewolves in General,” but the song stays and maybe there’s some swing in the dance. Or, if we were to remove Shakira, then it’s “1970's-80's Werewolf Prom Night.” Your move.

5. Can’t Fight the Moonlight (LeAnn Rimes)

You can try to resist
Try to hide from my kiss
But you know
But you know that you can't fight the moonlight

It’s in between pop and slow dancing, and again, it’s one of those songs that has to do with the moon: one of the biggest symbols for werewolves.

6. I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You (Black Kids)

One!
I'm biting my tongue
Two!
He's kissing on you
Three!
Oh, why can't you see?
One! Two! Three! Four!

This one fits more in line with the “Prom” part of the playlist theme; Most teenagers will probably go through a moment where they’re frustrated with the person who their crush has decided to date, especially when they’re asked to help make them into a better partner. We’re keeping it.

7. I Was a Teenage Werewolf (The Cramps)

I was a teenage werewolf
Braces on my fangs
I was a teenage werewolf
And no one even said thanks
And no one made me stop

Have you ever seen the 80’s teen comedy, “Teen Wolf” starring the best actor of all time, Michael J. Fox? If not, go watch it and then come back and tell me this song isn’t perfect.

8. Hungry Like The Wolf (Duran Duran)

In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
And I'm hungry like the wolf

You should know my tastes by now. Besides, are you telling me that werewolves wouldn’t listen to classic rock?

9. Furr (Blitzen Trapper)

For my flesh had turned to fur, yeah
And my thoughts, they surely were turned to
Instinct and obedience to God.

There’s always going to be a group of kids in any given school that are really into folk music. Throwing them a tune (or bone) from Blitzen Trapper might satisfy them for at least some of the night.

10. Burning for You (Blue Oyster Cult)

Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I'm not the one to tell you what's wrong or what's right
I've seen suns that were freezin' and lives that were through

Not a song about werewolves, the moon, or dancing, but it does sound pretty good with the rest of the songs on this playlist.

11. Chew Me Up And Spit Me Out (Cobra Starship)

And chew me up
I just want a taste
When you spit me out
Put me in my place

Another great song for werewolves, all in all, since there’s all this cannibalism imagery, and wolves eat people sometimes, right? (Not recently, no, but maybe werewolves do.) In any case, it’s a good way to tie up a dance playlist, since you’re being…uh, spit out. Or something.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
