Well, now that Halloween is over, it's time for twinkly lights, Michael Buble Christmas playlists and perfecting that "Christmas List" board on Pinterest. Don't get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving and I'm not skipping over it. I just like to take advantage of the holiday season and make it last as long as possible, because it really is the most wonderful time of the year.
Yeah, we're kind of in the slump of the semester. We're finishing up group projects and papers and preparing for finals, but what's stopping us from getting into the Christmas spirit? Take advantage of the holidays! Everyone is cheerful, and it's the happiest two-ish months of the year. Here are some reasons to get excited for the holidays now:
1. Colder weather. It doesn't really snow here in Texas. But snow is a plus for the other states.
2. You finally get to wear all of those new sweaters from Urban Outfitters you ordered on sale this summer.
3. Christmas formals and semi-formals — they're definitely the best.
4. Sparkly things...because they're not really as acceptable any other time of the year.
5. Red wine is just better when it's cold outside (so is whiskey, if you're more into that sort of thing).
6. Pumpkins are still in season, so baking pumpkin bread is still acceptable.
7. Apple cider, egg nog, punch, etc.
8. Holiday parties. That is all.
9. Going home to see your family (this includes Thanksgiving, in most cases). It's definitely a huge relief from all of these projects and finals.
10. Shopping centers are decorated. The mall is decorated. Everything is decorated.
11. The smell of Christmas trees (or Christmas tree candles).
12. Christmas-flavored drinks at Starbucks. Maybe they will influence you to study more during this last stretch.
13. Giving. Personally, I love the opportunity to buy and make gifts, cards, etc. for my loved ones. It's always appreciated.
14. Pinterest is beginning to fill up with Christmas recipes, gift ideas, decorations and more.
15. In general, everyone just seems to be in a better mood.
So yeah, I know it's only mid-November, but why not go ahead and pump yourself up for this Christmas season? And if you weren't already excited enough, ABC Family's 25 days of Christmas is starting December 1st (the countdown beginning a few days before), and they've released the lineup. 'Tis the season!
