The introduction of a new year is often a time of reflection, a chance to think about all the decisions of the previous year. Some of which we may rather forget. Others, we reminisce about what we may have done differently. For many people, myself included, the new year brings hope of a chance to move forward, leaving some of our bad choices, habits and mistakes in the past.
I’m not really the one who resolves to lose weight, although I have decided that it is high time that I become more health-conscious of what I eat and how I treat my body. I even got a leg up on my workout routine before the New Year even hit (Personally, I hate the pressure of this as a New Year’s resolution). I’m a non-smoker, so luckily, this is not one of my goals, either. I don’t put myself through the agony of “spend less, save more” because the shoe fetish wins every time. The reoccurring resolution on my list is always in the area of my relationships and this year was no exception. However, I have decided to take a proactive approach in this arena and release some of the toxic behavior that I’ve allowed in my relationships.
1.Excuses
Reasons for why I’m not important enough for you to make time for.
2.Procrastination
There’s a difference between taking your time and dragging your feet.
3. Empty promises
What you do speaks so loudly that I can’t even hear what you say.
4.Imbalance
Relationships should be equal not one-sided. Equal commitment and equal effort.
5.Inconsistency
Don’t tell me you love (miss, care about) me! Prove it.
Farewell to all of the gross misconducts that I accepted in 2015. I must bid you ado.
To be clear, I’m not resolving to cut anyone off. I am deciding to make myself my number one priority. Instead of investing my time into love (or the lack thereof) from some guy, I’m taking that energy and putting it back into myself, which means that I’ll have more time to focus on me and the things that make me happy, things that I truly love, like writing, traveling and Spanish. If I’m lucky, I may fall in love with a few new hobbies that I’ve been wanting to explore, like an exotic cooking class, yoga/pure barre and Cirque du Soleil. Who knows what 2016 will hold. I may even fall in love with me.
