It's that time of year again. The week we all wait for throughout summer; the week where our teachers don't give us homework and there's a different party every night. It's the happiest time of year: syllabus week. Syllabus week marks the beginning of a new semester and the beginning of the strange events and people you encounter throughout the year. No matter what, you always seem to see the same kinds of people this week.
1. Your best friends.
You text each other about what you're wearing and make a game plan of which parties you're going to go to first. You get ready together for what is about to be either the best night ever or a complete disaster.
2. "That guy."
The guy at the party that is trying so hard to hit on girls it's borderline creepy. He's following them around and flirting with anyone with a pulse. Every girl he approaches darts "save me" eyes at their friends to signal that they need to fabricate some sort of emergency to get her away.
3. "That girl."
We all know her; she is the girl that goes a little too hard at a party and you always find yourself having to take care of her. This girl comes in the form of either a complete stranger or one of your best friends, and you just feel the need to help when someone is passed out on the ground. She's either completely out, or crying on the bathroom floor; there is no in-between. Everyone knows this girl, and everyone has been this girl, whether they care to admit it or not.
4. The acquaintances.
The people you don't hang out with all the time, but when you see them at a party, you somehow become lifelong friends.
5. The Uber Driver.
The one you call when your feet hurt too much to walk and you want to trade partying in for curly fries. He saw you at your best when he dropped you off at the beginning of the night, and now he's seeing you at your worst, with no shoes on and makeup smeared all over your face. He's the one making sure you get home safe or to a quiet place to get food. Not all heroes wear capes.
6. The one who is always there for you at the end of the night.
Who doesn't judge you for what you do at the party. Who always seems to make you feel better without trying. They're there for you.
7. Finally, all the zombies of the morning after.
The ones who are wearing a giant t-shirt and makeup from the night before, who are riding the struggle bus of all struggle buses as they are try to get to their next class. You glance at each other with understanding, because you know you're going through the same thing. You see this, and you feel the way you do, but all you can think about is doing it all again tonight.
