The Coachella Craze: 2015 Lineup Predictions
Outer Sparkle

With turkey day a mere week away and first semester quickly closing, its curtains with your grades wrapped around its fingers, TravelGrom perfectly times the drop of its atomic bomb on all of us music enthusiasts by releasing their annual Coachella lineup predictions.

With this revelation, poof! Your stomach stops growling for your mom’s pumpkin pie, and the thought of writing that annoying gen-ed paper disappears while you scroll through the predicted list of 100+ artists. Headliners include Jack White, U2, the Foo Fighters, and Coldplay. Popular names like Arctic Monkeys, Avicii, Childish Gambino, Deadmau5, Diplo, Florence + the Machine, Iggy Azalea, Kendrick Lamar, Sam Smith, Sia, and Weezer also pop off the page. Now cue the freakout of either total excitement and joy or a skeptical lack of trust toward TravelGrom's predictions.

With 2014’s lineup prediction, TravelGrom did a pretty good job, accurately predicting 65% of the names they listed (83 of the 128 predicted artists played at Coachella 2014). Clearly, they're not just creating this list based on their writers' preferences and observations. The list is composed through intense research of music blogs and forums, artist album releases and tour dates, new artist popularity and a careful watch of what artists AEG and Goldenvoice, the Coachella planners, are booking at their Los Angeles clubs. They also pay close attention to the Coachella message board and look at the pool of artists that are most voted by site users.

So, now that I have you convinced that they are the real deal and most definitely can be trusted, let's break down TravelGrom's official list. Last year, Skrillex and Martin Garrixx blew all the sand out of the Sahara tent and left Coachella with only a handful of EDM artists to choose from for 2015.

Household names include Avicii, Deadmau5, Diplo, Hardwell and Porter Robinson, as well as a few smaller artists. I’m not sure who is slated to fill the tent this year, as it is Coachella’s mainstage EDM venue. While not a huge electronic music fan myself, I am definitely a fan of the EDM live music experience, especially that which takes place in the Sahara tent. This lack of big-name artists to create such an experience is definitely a major hole in the predicted list.

However, based off the artists that are listed, Coachella is going back to its roots of a more alternative and laid-back venue this year, while still maintaining some pretty major performances. A lot of the artists on the list have hit singles, where people commonly only know the name of that one song but do not know much about the artist.

These are the sets to be most excited about because, while you wait in anticipation for them to close the set with their hit, you discover a lot of good new songs that you may not have heard prior. That's the beauty of music festivals: discovering new music and discovering a way to freshen up all your Spotify playlists. If this predicted list turns out to be fairly accurate, artists to look out for are Alt-J, Clean Bandit, Milky Chance, Tove Lo, Trampled by Turtles and Vance Joy.

And then there are the artists you simply cannot miss. I know everyone's middle school dream was to see Weezer play “Beverly Hills” live, and every single Coldplay song will be sure to bring tears to your eyes. You’ll feel reborn after Florence + the Machine hypnotizes you with her sheer amazingness. Honestly, if you're not trying to go and see what kind of shades Bono will be sporting, you need music therapy. And please, for me, do not forget to get charmed by Sam Smith’s voice of an angel. Get excited about the possibility of seeing Arctic Monkeys, Sia, Belle & Sebastian, Jack White, the Foo Fighters, Frank Ocean, Young the Giant and so many more consistently great artists.

Thank you, TravelGrom, for filling our dreams with possibilities, and until April Coachella…

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
