10 Best Coffee Shops Near The Downtown Phoenix Campus
Allison Gargaro

For all downtown campus students, you know hanging out at a coffee shop is the best place to get studying and relaxing done at the same time. Whether it is between classes or time for a study break, a coffee shop is the perfect place to go.

The downtown Phoenix campus at ASU is a very artsy and hipster place to live. No matter what street you walk, drive or bike down there are murals painted by local artists, hidden delicious restaurants and many coffee shops. Students on the Phoenix campus major in journalism, pre-med, event planning, non-profit and criminal justice. All of these majors require a lot of study breaks.

Here is my list of the top 10 coffee shops in Downtown Phoenix. I hope that this list will make your trip to Phoenix worthwhile. If you have any other recommendations, I would love to hear some more places to check out.

1. Songbird Coffee & Tea House, 812 N. Third St.
Songbird is my No. 1 choice because you can't beat their outside area with a porch swing (A PORCH SWING), and they also make a great thai iced tea.

2. Lux Central, 4402 N. Central Ave.
Lux has some of the best mac and cheese I have ever had. It is a definite must when you want a pick-me-up latte and a bite to eat.

3. Jobot Coffee & Diner, 918 N. Fifth St.
Jobot is open 24 hours for you night owls and is a great place to try out some crepes and stop by the local book store

4. Cartel Coffee Lab, 1 N. First St.

5. Phoenix Public Market Cafe, 14 E. Pierce St.

6. DeSoto Central Market, 915 N Central Ave.
Desoto Central Market just opened up on the corner of Central and Roosevelt. This is a one-stop destination for all of your wishes. Not only is there a coffee shop but a flower shop, meat market, wine bar and tons of restaurants. You can eat inside at one of bars or relax in a plush chair next to your best friend.

7. Lola Coffee Bar, 1001 N. Third Ave.

8. The Velo Bike Shop and Cafe, 828 N. Second St.

9. One Coffee Co., 1 N. Central Ave.

10. Fair Trade Cafe, 1020 N 1st. Ave.

Downtown Phoenix has so much to offer, and it's just a shuttle ride away from the main campus. I hope that my recommendations will make your next study break a little bit easier.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
